SF0 is the granddaddy of contemporary collaborative production games. Players earn points in the system by tackling real-world creative challenges issued by other players. Challenges can often be extremely abstract, encouraging inventive responses. To score, players must submit their “praxis” or evidence, documenting how they went about fulfilling the conditions of the challenge.
While this game uses extremely minimal resources in terms of technology (its main interface is a custom-built CMS web portal), its design is inherently transmedial, eliciting engagement from its player base across a range of mobile platforms and performative modes.
Originally designed for players in the Bay Area, SF0's geek cred has enabled it to expand internationally.
